It's four years since she left the Square, but Jessie Wallace may for ever be associated with EastEnders.

The actress, who was hugely popular as Kat Slater, told This Morning that people still call her by her character's name every day.

She said: "I get asked every day if I'm going to go back. I still get called Kat every day, which I find flattering that she made such an impact but I'm doing other stuff now and it's great. I think it's nearly four years ago since I left."

When pushed as to whether the door could be open for her return, Jessie said: "I don't know... I'm too scared to say anything!"

The 38-year-old, who is starring in the play Stepping Out, added that she was "really surprised" at the news Barbara Windsor is stepping down from her role on EastEnders.

She also addressed her recent fitness drive and weight loss, saying: "I go running every morning and go to the gym three times a week. But I didn't run this morning, I couldn't be bothered!"

She added: "I'm not obsessed with it, I just enjoy it and like to keep it up, but when you see a change with your body, it motivates you to do it more."
